Tell us about yourself

I am currently entering my final year of studying Law at the University of Birmingham. Outside of my studies, I have spent a lot of time involved with the Rugby Club, whether that be playing for the university or organising and taking part in its socials. Whilst studying Law at university, it has always been clear to me that I was doing so as an academic qualification rather than a pathway into a legal career. I know that I would like to work in business, and I aim to gain as much experience as possible across a broad range of business types before completing additional qualifications and applying for jobs in the future.

Why did you choose work experience at PEMCF?

Cambridge is known for being a thriving centre for technological innovation and exciting high growth companies, attracting capital from both private and government sectors. I was very hopeful of gaining experience with PEMCF in order to gain valuable experience of this market and to improve my skillset by learning from the employees of a leading provider of M&A and buyout advice.

What have you learnt from being at PEMCF?

During my time at PEMCF I have learnt valuable skills such as how to understand companies, their results, forecasts, write technical articles such as ‘What is a VIMBO?’, and how to use financial metrics to ascertain their value. I have also learnt how to identify potential businesses actively looking for M&As within specific market sectors. This experience has also offered me an insight into working within a leading Corporate Finance team.

What has been the biggest challenge?

Getting to grips with different ways of obtaining company information and filing history for smaller companies proved difficult at first along with conducting specific market research for potential buyers. Having said this, I was quickly introduced to how to use the requisite tools to speed up the process of completing these tasks.

What have you enjoyed the most from your experience at PEMCF?

I am appreciative for being given this opportunity and I have enjoyed being able to take full ownership of the work I have completed during my work experience with Corporate Finance. I am thankful for the skills I have learnt during my time at PEMCF and have thoroughly enjoyed the invaluable time spent with the team and as part of a leading Corporate Finance team.
